corners of my home...sorta

Over the past few years I have done a few posts about the corners of my home.  About my favorite chair or my kitchen or my flowers or my sewing nook.  But you wanna know what my favorite part of my world is?  Just being here in Kansas.  It may be a bit harder to appreciate the beauty here.  Mountains...nope.  Oceans...nope.  Trees...okay maybe a few.  But where else can you looks across the prairie on a clear day and see the back of your head?  Hee hee just kidding!

Kansas has a serene beauty.  Peaceful rolling hills that are pure and untouched.  A few cows maybe, but there are miles and miles without towers or cities or pollution or congestion or cell phone service or mind numbing noise.  Just quiet.  Peace.  God.  Pure.  Simple.  Welcome to my home.

These pics were taken at a cattle pen in the Flint Hills of East Central Kansas.  There are a few more on Flickr if you click on the badge at your left!  Enjoy.

Oh, Heidi, I so agree. You are looking out my back door. I stopped and took pictures of cows on the way to work the other day (maybe I should post them sometime?????). THAT is what I love about living. The beauty, the simpliness of it, the sense of being safe, not worrying about who is just around the corner. I love my little corner of the world too!

I love the Kansas landscape, I find the openness and the big sky to be absolutely stunning! Lovely pictures, they're very nice corners of your "home".

Thanks for the posted photos, the narrative... and the added comments from folks. The Kansas Flint Hills are a special, distinctive place.

amandajean, we'd love to have you come visit!

I really enjoy my Google Alert for Blogs on “Kansas Flint Hills!”
Yours came up today!
Our 22 county Flint Hills Tourism Coalition, Inc. promotes visits to the Kansas Flint Hills – the website is: http://www.kansasflinthills.travel/
Hard to believe it has been over a year now since the 22 page color photo spread in National Geographic’s April 2007 Issue on the Kansas Flint Hills, as a distinctive landscape. We are now working to get the Kansas Flint Hills designated as a National Heritage Area.
We would appreciate a link from your site, to ours, if you are willing to do so. THANKS!
Best wishes!
Dr. Bill ;-)

Hey Heidi -- I'm challenging you to write a post about the things you love about your Blackberry. I want to see if there is anything I'm not doing with mine. I never realized a cell phone could be such a great organizational tool!

Did I ever send you the script for Blog Kansas...I thought I did, but looking through my "sent" bin...I'm thinking I didn't.

Just let me know...

wow...amazing pictures. Here in southern California, you get both ocean and mountains; so, seeing just the plains is amazing. plain amazing!

So pretty.

At first I thought that was your back yard... ;o) Can you imagine? I'm from the Northwest, so I used to think beauty was all ocean and evergreens and snow capped mountains. Now I'm learning to appreciate it all over the place.

So are you telling me that "amber waves of grain" don't count as an ocean! Just kidding. Kansas is beautiful. I've driven across it three times, and although it seemed to take forever, and I was attacked by a severe windstorm of tumbleweeds, I thought it was amazing. You're lucky to have that view as your backyard!

Beautiful.
I lived in Kansas City for about a year and I really loved it. I know it's not the same as the prairie, but I do appreciate how pretty it is.
