ouchie!

Help!!! I'm a total idiot! We spent the day at the pool and I did NOT put on enough sunscreen! So here it is, the sunburn of all sunburns! I'm sure you all are grateful that I didn't post a picture of my thighs that are completely singed. I always use a light sunscreen on my face and shoulders. Part of my daily routine. Not quite enough for a day at the pool however. I would like to say that I totally forgot or was inadvertently burned while in the shade, but that would be completely untrue. I was poolside with my babes having a BLAST!!! I am however paying the price. The shivers and goosebumps that hurt as bad as the burn...check.

I am asking for your help. Anyone out there have a good remedy for sunburns...other than staying out of the sun? I've heard tea bags but not heard of anyone who has ever actually tried using them on a sunburn.

Vinegar compresses help take the sting out. Other than that the heavy cream Noxema seems to work as well as anything.

OUCH!!!!!!!!!

I am cringing for you. Oh, you poor thing. I have gotten sun poison way too many times. Now I avoid the sun as much as possible.

I don't know of any remedies either. I think we've used Dermaplast (left over from the hospital after giving birth) in the past.

Good luck.

Oh, Heidi. It looks like it hurts!

Ibuprofen (anti-inflamatory), a cool bath, and Noxema have worked for me. I've used that green aloe gel stuff too, but it seemed to give me the itchies.

Good luck with the sleeping tonight!

And, the green aloe works for me!

When I was a kid we used milk. I have no idea why though.

Since I always completely cover Jack in sunscreen I am much better about covering myself as well.

yeoch!

i just read somewhere to take a cool (not cold) bath with baking soda. it neutralizes the water or something like that.

again, ouch!

Oooh you poor thing. How about bicarbonate of soda added to a lukewarm bath - it works for chicken pox!1 Good luck, hope you're feeling better soon.

definitely do the ibuprofen and i hate to say it, don't go out in the sun until it's healed....

poor you! i feel your pain- i'm terrible at remembering to put sunscreen on myself too...

i always use the cool green aloe vera extract gel, it works really well and seems to greatly speed up the healing process. if you happen to have an aloe vera plant in your garden, that works just as well too- just crack a stem open and rub it onto the burn.
hope you feel better soon!

My grandma (who my sisier and I spent many summers with) always put vinegar all over our bodies. I can't remember how well it worked, but I can tell ya one thing... I don't remember that it hurt too bad once we had the vinegar on. Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.

I have had many a sunburn in my fair-skinned life. I use the aloe vera gel, but keep it in the fridge so it really cools down my skin when I apply it. It also moisturizes. Reapply almost constantly. Goodluck.

ouch. that looks wickedly bad. it is three days later now, i hope you are feeling better. anti inflammatories are good, and slather on whatever you have on hand that moisturizes, oils, creams, keep it going. i always have therapeutic grade lavender oil on hand.

Back in the day my mom would use Noxzema. It really felt great, but alas we have since learned that it is actually harmful. The only thing I know is aloe. Now that I live in LA and have to deal with the sun every day, I use Aveno sunscreen and it does last a long time. I hear asprin is good too.

BTW: Catching up on some old posts, I love the skirts and the fabric over the windows!

Oh man, Heidi! - you poor thing. It sounds like you have plenty of advice already and I hope you are getting relief. I am peeling myself, but not burnt like that. Ahhh... the beginning of summer. :_

Ouch that looks painful!

I always put some vinegar on when I get a sunburn. I either put it in a spray bottle and spray it or on some cotton balls and gently rub it on. I like it better than aloe vera, it just feels better to me (although it does smell something terrible:).

Owww! You poor thing! I've done that too (skiing), I know it doesn't help to realize afterwards what you *should* have done. I've used the aloe vera too.

Aloe vera is really efficient but is considered allergenic factor. I was using it for years but now I am very allergic to it, so is my 18 months son. Just be a little careful for itching and rashes. Greetings from sunny, hot, hot Greece
