i think we'll stay in today

I suppose God has his ways of slowing us down this time of year. We woke up this morning to sheets of icy draped over our little piece of Kansas. Nutcracker is this upcoming weekend and this little day of peace and quiet is welcomed. The kids and I are watching the Polar Express and drinking hot chocolate today. Perfect.

I can't for the life of me figure out what to get our almost 11 year old daughter. She wants a cell phone or a laptop. After a bit of nudging I got her to make a realistic list last night that included her own bakeware, a sewing machine, and ballet "stuff". I can work with that. What I want to leave you with is the list that Parker made. Mind you Santa has been done shopping for this kid for a month.

1. Rocket ship with BIG windows
2. Jet pack
3. Boy Christmas tree (apparently ours are too feminine)
4. Chocolate toy
5. Toy kitchen
6. Another shirt
7. Drink holder
8. Piano

Poor kid. I didn't get him a single thing on his list. Sigh. I missed the mark on the jet pack. Staying warm in our new light wale cord blanket today!

oh I am sure the minute he opens all his gifts from santa he'll forget all about his list :) I bet you bought his terrific stuff that he didn't even know he wanted... though, I would love a jet pack too :)

Enjoy your day off.

Sounds like a perfect day. I hope the ice melts for the weekend.

As for the Christmas lists...too funny. I don't understand why you can't get Parker a rocket ship?! :o) Bryaden's wish list was pretty similar to Parker's except his involved an ATV and a Pony!

I love your icicle picture. Staying in on days like these in the winter is so great (unless the kids start going at each other) - enjoy!

I love that he wants a "Boy Christmas tree". The kids at our church decorated wreaths last week, and while the girls used ribbon and glitter and angels and flowers, the boys used Hot Wheels and toy planes and broken disks from disk guns and silly putty. So, yes, one the doors in our church is now decorated with a wreath covered in miniature F-15s.

Sounds like a great day, all snuggled up at home together watching the Polar Express, my youngest loves that film too. Good luck with the Nutcracker and those Christmas pressies!

It sounds like a dreamy, cozy indoor day. Love that wishlist, the chocolate toy seems sort of reasonable??? Too funny.

I would love to see his idea of a boy Christmas tree. Can't wait to hear about the Nutcracker production!

Her own bakeware??? That is such a good idea (better than a cellphone, in my opinion)! :)
