a partner and a runner

I have to tell you, I adore the fact that my offspring are getting a bit older. They really are turning into some of the coolest folks I now. Especially my little gals. Little red has been asking for a sewing machine constantly for about the last six months. When her birthday came around last week we decided she might be old enough for a machine of her own. Eight sounds like a good age to start sewing, right? So there it is. Her sweet turquoise machine sitting right next to mine. I am so excited about the time we will spend together. I love the idea of being able to nurture her creative spirit. She really has a spirit about that is like no one I have ever known. I am so thrilled to see what comes out of that priceless imagination!

Above are a new set of coaster I just finished up. I think I am going to hang them in he kitchen with a ribbon through the grommets. I was pretty satisfied with how they turned out. Maybe matching pot holders?

Abby had her very first track meet last week and it was an event to be sure. My precious hubby was on an awful business trip most of last week (that is if you consider golfing and fine dining every day as awful) and Parker was about at the end of his rope by the time the meet came around. WHAT?! You mean I CAN'T run out on the track in the middle of the race? I CAN'T play in the sand while the long jumpers are still jumping? Let me tell you, it was a LOOOOOONG night. We had a few extra gals with us as well. Because I thought three wasn't quite enough on my own! I was a great night. Really. Abby was wonderful! I am so proud that she is running. It is a lifetime sport I hope she holds onto.

So there it is. The weekend in a nutshell. I hope you all had a great weekend as well. Has anyone else with Blogger realized that it saves for you every few minutes? Sweet!

How cool to have her own sewing machine! I love the potholders, very cute! You are brave to be using gromments.

What a sweet little sewing machine and perfect that it's right there next to yours. Oh, I can't wait for the day when my little girl wants to sew. (She will *want* to, right??)

The coasters are cute. I love the grommet idea. I think potholders are a must.

Sorry you had to deal with a fussy little man during the meet. I know what that's like with the absent husband.

Love the coaster! And I'm jealous of the cousin-to-Mimi. I'm thinking I need to buy one and save it for Miss L. Congrats on surviving the track meet. Those darned things go on f-o-r-e-v-e-r.

Are you offering any classes to Mo? Can I join the class? Wait..., I still need a machine. Maybe that's what I'll ask for for my b-day.

Great photo...I can hear your son and smell the two week old concession stand popcorn.

Love that little machine. Wish mine came in that color!

&, I take it that the auto-save feature is treating you better than I. I can no longer "preview" posts and have immense difficulty uploading pictures. Have even had to "publish" the post, just to open it back up and load the pictures later. Making me crazy, I tell you...

Er, maybe it was the lack of sleep high productivity crafting (while the husband was away playing in New York) that had me going crazy...
whatever! :)

My girls are crafty too and I love that it provides a bond for us--even through the teen years. My 16 year old and I have "craft night" every Tuesday together and I love it. We spend lots of time talking and sewing. I know these are precious times!

That is really awesome that she is interested. My daughter (7) wants a sewing machine but I thought she was a little to young. I have however been letting her use mine (of course while I'm there with her) to get the hang of feeding the fabric into it and also controlling the foot pedal. I think maybe this year Santa is going to bring her a sewing machine. Be sure to post pics of what she makes.
